Honors
During the Annual International Conference of the Institute, held in June 2002 at Banff, Alberta, Mukhopadhyay was awarded a plaque. The citation read, "Nitis Mukhopadhyay, University of Connecticut. For outstanding contribution in sequential analysis and multistage sampling; path-breaking research in selection and ranking; authoritative books; exemplary editorial service; innovative teaching and advising; and exceptional dedication to preserve and celebrate statistical history through films and scientific interviews."
During the Joint Statistical Meetings and the 163rd Annual Meeting of the American Statistical Association, held in August 2003 at San Francisco, California, Mukhopadhyay was awarded a plaque. The citation read, "Nitis Mukhopadhyay, Professor of Statistics, University of Connecticut. For outstanding research contributions in sequential analysis, multistage sampling, selection and ranking; for exemplary editorial work and excellence in teaching and student advising; and for exceptional service in preserving the history of statistics."
For the paper entitled "Distributions of Sequential and Two-Stage Stopping Times for Fixed-Width Confidence Intervals in Bernoulli Trials: Application in Reliability" in Sequential Analysis (2007), 26, 425-441 (with S. Zacks). Awarded at the Joint Statistical Meetings at Denver, Colorado, August 3-7, 2008.
During the Annual Meeting 2013 of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), held in February 2013 at Boston, Massachusetts, Mukhopadhyay was honored with a certificate and the AAAS Fellowship Rosette. The citation read, "Nitis Mukhopadhyay, University of Connecticut: For path-breaking contributions in sequential analysis and selection and ranking, influential books, exemplary editorial service, outstanding mentoring,, and exceptional dedication to preserve statistical history."
